The Wolf and the Seven Kids
Once upon a time there was an old goat who had seven little kids and loved them with all her heart. One day she wanted to go into the forest to forage for food, so she called all seven of her kids to her. Children I have to go into the forest I want you all to be careful and watch out for the wolf, for if he comes, he will eat you all up. The wolf often disguises himself, but you will know him immediately by his rough voice and his black feet. The children told their mother that they would take good care of themselves don’t you worry about us. The old goat said her goodbyes and made her way into the forest.
Not long after there was a knock at the door and that person called out Open the door children it is your mother, I have brought each of you something from the forest. But the little kids knew that it was not their mother as the voice was very rough, so they knew it was the wolf trying to fool them. They called out, we will not open the door as you are not our mother as she has a sweet and pleasant voice. Your voice is rough, and we know that you are the wolf.
The wolf left and went to the store and bought a jar of honey. He ate that and it made his voice sweet and pleasant. Back to the house he went and knocked once more calling out, open the door children it is your mother, I have brought each of you something from the forest. But the wolf had laid his great big black paws against the window and the kids could see that it was the wolf once again. They called out, we will not open the door for our mother does not have black feet. We know you are the wolf as you have black feet.
The wolf ran to the baker and told the baker that he had hurt his feet and would he rub his feet with flour. The baker rubbed the flour on the wolf’s feet which turned them white. Once again, the wolf went back to the house for the third time. He knocked calling out open the door children, it is your mother, I have brought each of you something from the forest. The kids called out, first show us your paws, so the wolf put his white paws up to the window and the kids saw that they were white and believed it was their mother and threw open the door only to discover it was the wolf.
The kids were scared, and they ran to hide from the wolf. One kid hid under the table, the second hid under the bed, the third hid in the stove, the fourth hid in the kitchen, the fifth ran into a closet, the sixth hid under the sink and the seventh hid in the clock case. The wolf found six of them easily and in his greed, he swallowed them whole one after another. Only the youngest kid was still hidden in the clock case.
The wolf feeling quite full and sleepy left the house and went into a nearby field to sleep under a tree.
The old mama goat soon came home from the forest to find the front door wide open. She went inside to find the chairs, tables and benches thrown around, the sink broken in pieces. The bed clothes were torn and thrown in a pile. She looked everywhere for her children but could not find them. She started calling them one by one by name and heard no answer until she called the seventh and littlest kid. She heard him say that he was in the clock case. She took him out of the clock case, and he told his mother that the wolf had eaten all the other kids. The old goat cried over the loss of her children. They went outside and saw the wolf lying under a tree in the field. The old goat saw that the sleeping wolf’s full belly was moving and pushing from the inside.
So, the old goat ran home and made a smoothie of all the most disgusting things she could find hoping that the wolf in his greed would swallow it down and make him vomit. She ran back to the sleeping wolf and woke him saying I made you a drink to settle your stomach. The wolf who was feeling rather bloated and uncomfortable snatched the drink from her hands and gulped it down quickly. He immediately started to vomit and out came the old goats’ kids one after another until all six were standing in front of her.
After all her children were saved, they told the wolf to never to come to their house again and the wolf was never seen again.
The End!
