Little Red Riding Hood w/ Intro
Transcript:
Welcome to the Merced County Dial a Story. The story you will be listening to today is Little Red Riding Hood, performed for you by the Merced library theater players.
*Little Red playing around with her cape, dancing, humming to herself.*
Narrator: Once upon a time, there was a good little girl who everyone liked, especially her grandmother, who made her a beautiful, red velvet cloak. Unfortunately, Little Red Riding Hood had a little problem with listening and following directions…
Little Red: Hey! I can listen just fi, oh something shinny!
Narrator: One day, Little Red’s mother had a very important job for her.
Mother: Little Red! Would you please bring this basket to your Grandmother? It has some medicine and ginger ale and a piece of her favorite cake. Now don’t get distracted and wander off into the forest. Mind your manners, and don’t talk to strangers!
Little Red: Okay, mom! Oooh, I hope Grandma made my favorite cookies and lets me watch cartoons!
*Little Red skips away*
Mother: Some days I worry about that child, always so distracted.
Narrator: As do I, for Little Red’s grandma’s house was in the center of the woods. And a bad wolf, who was a liar and liked to eat little girls, lived in the woods as well.
Next scene
Wolf: *growls* Oh, I am so very hungry. I wish there was a Chipotle nearby. *sniffs air* Mmm, I smell a little girl, mmm smells tasty!
*Little Red enters, wandering distractedly*
Wolf: Hey, Little Red, where ya headed?
Little Red: Hi Mr. Wolf. I’m just going to Grandma’s house to bring her some stuff.
Wolf: Where does your grandma live, Little Red.
Little Red: Oh, just in the center of the woods.
Narrator: She really shouldn’t be telling a shifty-looking wolf all of this.
Little Red: Hey, what do you… *gets interrupted by Wolf*
Wolf: Don’t listen to that guy, he has no idea what he’s talking about. Hey, I’m sure your grandma would appreciate some pretty flowers. There’s some over there in that field.
Little Red: Hmmm I don’t know, Grandma is pretty sick.
Wolf: And there’s ponies.
Little Red: Ponies! *runs over Wolf in excitement*
Wolf: *picks himself up then laughs evilly* Now, off to grandmother’s house I go!
Next scene
Wolf: *knocks on Grandma’s door*
Grandma: *coughing* Who is it?
Wolf: *falsetto* It’s me, Little Red, your granddaughter!
Grandma: Little Red? I’m so excited to see my granddaughter.
*Grandma opens door,
Grandma: A wolf? Oh no, get away from me!
*They tussle, adlib zany fight as Wolf struggles to put her in the closet*
*Wolf emerges with Grandma’s cap*
Wolf: *struggles for breath* That grandma has a mean right hook for being a sick old woman.
*Little Red knocks at the door. Wolf hops into Grandma’s bed*
Little Red: Are you there, Grandma? It’s me, Little Red.
Wolf: *falsetto* Come in my dear!
Little Red: I hope you’re ok! I brought you these goodies but I didn’t find any ponies… *startled and sounds scared* Oh, Grandma, what big ears you have!
Wolf: The better to hear you with, my dear.
Little Red: What big, glowing yellow eyes you have!
Wolf: The better to see you with, my dear.
Little Red: Oh what big, sharp teeth you have!
Wolf: The better to eat you with, my dear! *jumps out of bed*
*Little Red screams and throws a can of ginger ale into Wolf’s mouth*
*Wolf makes gulping noises*
Wolf: Ah! Bad gas, I feel like I’m going to explode. Out of my way, I need a bathroom.
*Wolf runs offstage*
Next Scene:
*Grandma starts shouting (muffled). Little Red lets her out of the closet.*
Little Red: Grandma! Hello grandma, I’m so sorry I should have listened better to Mom. But I didn’t listen, are you okay?
Grandma: *weakly* I’m fine, I’m fine deary! I’m just happy that mean old wolf didn’t get you.
*Wolf is yowling in the background with the occasional belching and sneezing noises*
Grandma: *yells strongly* Be quiet you!
*Wolf starts sobbing*
Wolf: I’m sorry I tricked you Little Red. I was just so hungry! I haven’t had a good meal for
days!
Little Red: Oh, he says he’s sorry Grandma! Would it be ok if he stayed over for cake and
cartoons?
Grandma: Oh, okay, only if he promises to behave and try not to eat you.
*Wolf eagerly comes back onstage*
Wolf: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I promise! I promise! Thank you grandma, this is swell!
Narrator: And so, Little Red, Grandma, and the Wolf ate cake and watched cartoons for the
rest of the day. The end.
